Luxury hotels in Dubai are increasingly relying on local residents as regional instability and conflict reduce the number of international tourists visiting the emirate.

Hotels across the city, particularly on the famous Palm Jumeirah, have introduced attractive staycation packages and resident-only discounts to maintain occupancy levels.
As a result, many residents are now experiencing luxury accommodations that were previously beyond their reach.
Residents Drive Hotel Demand
Dubai’s five-star hotels have seen a rise in local guests, especially during weekends and public holidays.
Although international tourist numbers have fallen, discounted rates have encouraged residents to book short leisure stays close to home.
Consequently, staycation offers have become an important source of business for the hospitality sector.
Luxury Becomes More Accessible
Among those taking advantage of the discounts is Fadi Iskandarani, a Lebanese doctor who has lived in Dubai for five years.
He said he recently spent his first weekend at a luxury resort on Palm Jumeirah after discovering that room rates had dropped significantly.
According to Iskandarani, the hotel reduced its prices to nearly a quarter of their usual rates.
“I had never been in a hotel on the Palm because the prices were crazy,” he said.
However, the discounted offer convinced him to try the experience.
Hotels Adapt to Changing Market
While some luxury hotels continue to operate below full capacity, many have adjusted their pricing strategies to attract domestic customers.
In some cases, hotels have closed certain floors because of lower guest numbers.
Nevertheless, facilities such as pools, restaurants, and beachfront areas continue to attract large numbers of residents seeking a luxury getaway.
Furthermore, hotel operators view staycation packages as a practical way to offset the decline in international visitors.
Tourism Remains Key to Dubai Economy
Dubai remains one of the Middle East’s leading tourism destinations and welcomes millions of visitors each year.
The city has long built its reputation on luxury hospitality, world-class attractions, and premium travel experiences.
However, recent regional tensions have affected travel patterns and encouraged hotels to focus more heavily on the local market.
As a result, discounted staycation deals have become a vital tool for sustaining business activity in Dubai’s hospitality sector.
For many residents, these offers have also created a rare opportunity to enjoy the luxury lifestyle that once catered mainly to wealthy international travellers.
