The incident occurred on Guddu-Kashmore Road near Murid Shakh when more than 20 armed bandits stopped the bus, opened fire, smashed windows, and abducted 14 passengers. Earlier reports had mistakenly suggested 19 passengers were taken.
During the rescue operation, police cordoned off the area, set up checkpoints, and exchanged fire with the bandits in the Somiani area. One police officer was injured, and the attackers fired rockets at an armoured police vehicle. Drones were deployed to track the assailants, forcing them to flee.
Authorities said 13 hostages were rescued unharmed, while some passengers sustained injuries and received medical treatment. Several bandits were also reported injured during the encounter.
DIG Sukkur Faisal Abdullah Chachar said police are continuing their pursuit of the armed suspects in the riverine katcha areas, where dense fog and standing sugarcane fields are complicating operations. Authorities are working to arrest the remaining attackers and recover any other potential abductees.
