Basant 2027 will be celebrated in Lahore from March 12 to 14 after the Punjab cabinet approved a summary for the revised dates. The Lahore deputy commissioner’s office issued a notification proposing the new schedule three days earlier and submitted it to the provincial government for approval. Under the proposal, residents will be allowed to fly kites across Lahore district during the three-day festival, except in prohibited areas. Participants will also have to use approved materials. The proposed schedule sets out deadlines for manufacturing, purchasing, transporting, storing and selling kites and kite strings. Manufacturing will be permitted until March 14, 2027, while the purchase, transportation and storage of kites and strings will be allowed from February 1. Sales to the general public will begin on February 10. Rana Sanaullah: PTI urged to unite with government against terrorism In September, the Punjab government had approved a 10-day Basant celebration from January 29 to February 7, with a break on February 5 to observe Kashmir Day. The revised dates shift the festival to mid-March, giving authorities a new schedule for organising the event and regulating kite-flying activities. Basant returned to Lahore from February 6 to 8 this year, reviving a celebration long associated with the city’s cultural identity and spring festivities after more than two decades.
