In a statement on Thursday, China’s Ministry of Commerce urged Washington to immediately withdraw the proposed measures, arguing that they unfairly target Chinese companies and products.
The ministry said the restrictions discriminate against Chinese manufacturers and called on the United States to end what it described as its “erroneous actions.”
Beijing criticises US security measures
The response came after the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced proposals on Tuesday aimed at protecting the country’s expanding artificial intelligence infrastructure and strengthening domestic production in strategic industries.
US officials said the measures are designed to address national security risks linked to foreign technology while supporting industries expected to play a key role in future economic growth.
China rejects national security justification
China accused the FCC of ignoring Beijing’s repeated concerns and continuing to tighten restrictions on Chinese technology exports.
Moreover, the commerce ministry argued that Washington was broadly applying the concept of national security to justify trade barriers.
It described the proposed measures as examples of market distortion and unilateral bullying, adding that they would damage the interests of both Chinese and American industries.
The latest dispute marks another escalation in trade and technology tensions between the world’s two largest economies, as both countries continue to compete in strategic sectors, including artificial intelligence and advanced manufacturing.
