The Sindh government has announced a Rs6 per kilogram reduction in flour prices following an emergency meeting between Provincial Food Minister Makhdoom Mehboobuz Zaman and representatives of the Flour Mills Association. The meeting, chaired by the food minister, was attended by Food Secretary Ghulam Abbas Naich. Participants expressed concern over the sudden rise in flour prices. Zaman said flour mills had increased prices by Rs15 to Rs16 per kilogram in a single day. He added that Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and the chief secretary had also expressed concern over the increase. Following discussions, the meeting decided to bring the ex-mill price of flour down from Rs161 to Rs155 per kilogram. The minister said the Sindh government had provided wheat growers with subsidies worth Rs76.5 billion through the Agriculture Department. He also said the province had recorded a record wheat harvest this year.
