The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to facilitate a meeting between Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui, currently in the United States, and the U.S. Ambassador as part of ongoing efforts for the release and repatriation of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui.
Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq, presiding over the case, was informed that the United States has yet to respond to the Prime Minister’s letter requesting Dr. Aafia Siddiqui’s release. The court noted that the upcoming week could be critical and urged the Ministry to provide full cooperation to Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui.
During the proceedings, it was revealed that details of the Prime Minister’s foreign visits, previously ordered to be submitted by December 20, were delayed due to the Secretary of Foreign Affairs’ engagement in China. The court extended the deadline to next week at the Ministry’s request.
The court also directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure that Dr. Fauzia Siddiqui meets with Pakistan’s Ambassador in the United States and takes all necessary steps to advance the case.
The hearing has been adjourned until January 24, with the court emphasizing the importance of diplomatic efforts in resolving the matter.
