BANNU, Nov 18, 2025: A militant linked to the Indian-backed group Al Khwarij was killed in the early hours of Tuesday while attempting to plant an improvised explosive device (IED) targeting civilians in Bannu District.
According to security officials, the failed attack underscores the growing desperation of the militants, who have increasingly turned to soft targets amid sustained pressure from Pakistan’s Security Forces and Law Enforcement Agencies. Authorities say such failed attempts reflect the diminishing operational capability and mounting frustration of the group in the face of effective counterterrorism measures.
Following the incident, a sanitization operation was launched in the area to ensure no other militant elements remain. The effort forms part of the ongoing counterterrorism drive under the “Azm-e-Istehkam” initiative, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan.
Security Forces reaffirmed that the campaign will continue with full resolve to eliminate all forms of foreign-sponsored terrorism and restore lasting peace in the region.
