The announcement was disclosed in a letter submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on March 24 by Rizwan Pesnani, Chief Risk Officer and Company Secretary of the company.
Taha currently serves as Managing Director and CEO of Pakistan State Oil, a position he has held since February 2020. Prior to that, he held leadership roles in the energy sector, including at Oasis Energy, where he oversaw operations related to electricity distribution in Nigeria.
Notably, Taha has previously worked with K-Electric as Chief Distribution Officer, marking a return to the organization. He holds an engineering degree along with an MBA in Finance from the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi.
His appointment follows a period of leadership transition at the utility. In February 2026, long-serving CEO Syed Moonis Abdullah Alvi resigned after nearly eight years in the role, following developments related to workplace harassment allegations and subsequent administrative decisions.
The company also underwent board restructuring in March, with Shaheryar Chishty appointed as acting chairman during the absence of Mark Skelton.
Serving more than 3.7 million customers across Karachi and parts of Sindh and Balochistan, K-Electric generates around 1,875 MW from its own plants while sourcing additional electricity from external producers, including the national grid.
At present, K-Electric faces ongoing challenges related to infrastructure, regulatory oversight, and customer concerns over service reliability and billing in Karachi.
