Pakistan’s security forces killed 12 militants and Afghan Taliban personnel during an exchange of fire along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in Kurram district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday. According to the military’s statement issued on October 11, security forces detected a group of militants attempting to cross into Pakistan from Afghanistan on October 10. ISPR said troops engaged the group and thwarted the infiltration attempt. It added that Afghan Taliban posts opened fire in support of the infiltrators. The military said precise engagement by Pakistani troops resulted in the deaths of 12 militants and Afghan Taliban personnel. During the intense exchange of fire, Naib Subedar Hidayat Aman, 40, from Ghizer district, was killed while fighting, according to the statement. ISPR paid tribute to the soldier, saying he had made the ultimate sacrifice in defence of the country. It further alleged that the Afghan Taliban regime had facilitated and supported cross-border terrorism. These allegations could not be independently verified. ISPR said security forces were conducting a sanitisation operation in the area to locate and eliminate any remaining militants. It described the operation as part of the ongoing counterterrorism campaign under Azm-e-Istehkam, which was approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan. The military reiterated that security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue operations against what it described as foreign-sponsored terrorism and remain committed to protecting Pakistan’s borders.
