A Kyiv Strike by Russian missiles killed at least one person and injured nine others early on Sunday, Ukrainian officials said, as explosions rocked the capital and fires broke out across several districts.

A Reuters witness reported hearing a series of powerful explosions shortly after Ukraine’s air force warned of a ballistic missile threat targeting the capital.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the attack ignited fires at a student dormitory, a residential building and a supermarket. Emergency crews rushed to the affected areas to contain the blazes and assist residents.

The missile strikes also damaged several non-residential buildings and warehouses. Burning debris set parked vehicles and office buildings on fire in multiple parts of the city, according to the mayor.

Authorities in the Kyiv region reported that two people sustained injuries during the attack. The regional military administration also confirmed damage to warehouses caused by the missile strikes.

Emergency services continued rescue and damage assessment operations as officials worked to determine the full extent of the attack.
