Pakistan has canceled the purchase of 45 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from Qatar and Italy that were scheduled for delivery through 2027, officials confirmed on Saturday.

According to sources in the Petroleum Division, 24 LNG cargoes from Qatar—initially planned for import in 2026—have been withdrawn from the schedule. From Italy, only one cargo will now arrive in January 2026 instead of the originally planned 12, while 10 out of 12 cargoes slated for 2027 have also been canceled.
Officials clarified that Pakistan maintains long-term LNG supply agreements with both Qatari and Italian companies, and the cancellations were made as part of routine adjustments within these contracts. The renegotiation and processing of changes with the international suppliers have already been completed.
Italy’s energy company holds a 15-year LNG supply agreement with Pakistan LNG Limited, while Qatar’s long-term contract is linked with the Pakistan State Oil (PSO). Under these arrangements, Pakistan typically imports around 10 LNG cargoes per month.
The decision reflects the government’s strategy to carefully manage energy imports while maintaining supply security under existing long-term agreements.
