The arrested suspects were identified as Sajjad Usman alias Babu and Hadad Ahmed. Law enforcement personnel recovered a Toyota Vigo vehicle fitted with a fake number plate along with multiple mobile phones from their possession.
According to a spokesperson for the Rangers, CCTV footage revealed that on February 17, the suspects, along with accomplices, allegedly abducted a trader at gunpoint from the Azizabad area. The victim was later moved to an undisclosed location using a Vigo vehicle bearing a fake government registration plate.
Officials said the kidnappers used an international phone number to contact the victim’s family and demanded a ransom of Rs10 million for his safe release. A case related to the incident was registered at Azizabad Police Station.
Following the complaint, Rangers and AVCC teams employed technical surveillance and carried out a coordinated operation in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area, successfully recovering the kidnapped trader safely.
During the raid, suspects reportedly opened fire in an attempt to flee. After a brief chase, two accused were apprehended from PIB Colony, while raids are ongoing to arrest remaining accomplices.
The arrested individuals, along with the recovered vehicle and seized items, have been handed over to police for further legal action.
Authorities urged citizens to assist law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest Rangers check post or through the Rangers helpline and official WhatsApp service, assuring that informants’ identities would remain confidential.
