Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to meet Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman on Tuesday to discuss proposals for abolishing the petroleum levy and reducing the burden of fuel prices on consumers. According to sources, the meeting will take place at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad on Tuesday afternoon. Jamaat-e-Islami Deputy Emir Liaquat Baloch will also attend, alongside other members of the party’s negotiating team. Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik and Prime Minister’s Adviser Rana Sanaullah are also expected to participate in the discussions, sources said. The meeting is expected to focus on the petroleum levy, current fuel prices and possible measures the government could introduce to provide relief to consumers. The talks follow Jamaat-e-Islami’s announcement of a long march against the petroleum levy imposed on fuel products. The party later postponed the planned protest after the prime minister contacted its leadership and invited its representatives for negotiations. The meeting could provide an opportunity for the government and Jamaat-e-Islami to discuss the party’s demands and explore possible options for easing the impact of fuel costs on the public.
