Sohail Afridi faces Peshawar High Court notice over alleged use of government resourcesKP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi leads the PTI protest march from Lakki Marwat.

The Peshawar High Court has issued a notice to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi in a petition concerning the alleged use of government resources for political activities during the PTI’s long march.

The petition was filed by PML-N MPA Qari Zahir, who argued that the use of state resources for political activities had previously been restricted by court orders. He alleged that Afridi travelled to Lakki Marwat by an official helicopter on October 4 to lead the protest march.

Reports confirmed that Afridi reached Lakki Marwat by helicopter before launching the PTI march from Gandi Chowk. PTI supporters had gathered there as the chief minister began the procession.

The petition asks the court to examine the alleged use of government resources during the march and seek an explanation from those responsible.

During the proceedings, the court issued a notice to the KP chief minister and sought his response. Further proceedings will be considered after his reply.

The case comes amid criticism from federal and provincial political figures over Afridi’s use of the official helicopter. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and KP Governor Faisal Karim Kundi had separately criticised the move, alleging that it breached judicial directions concerning the use of state machinery for political marches.

The Islamabad High Court had issued detailed directions on the use of government resources in connection with political marches, according to reports cited by critics of the KP government’s actions.

The petition also referred to a previous protest march in October 2024, alleging that Punjab Police detained more than 10 government vehicles and 47 government officials during a procession towards Islamabad led by former KP chief minister Ali Amin Gandapur.

The court’s latest order does not determine whether the alleged use of government resources was unlawful. That issue will depend on the response filed by the chief minister and any subsequent proceedings.
