PESHAWAR: At least three terrorists were killed and three Federal Constabulary (FC) personnel martyred after security forces successfully foiled a suicide attack on the FC Headquarters in Peshawar on Monday, officials confirmed.

Peshawar Capital City Police Officer Dr Mian Saeed said that three suicide bombers attempted to storm the heavily guarded compound. “One attacker detonated himself at the main gate, while two others managed to enter the premises,” he said.
FC personnel immediately retaliated, killing both infiltrators inside the compound and preventing them from inflicting mass casualties. The CCPO said the swift response by security officials averted a major tragedy.
Deputy Commandant FC Javed Iqbal also confirmed the elimination of all three attackers and the martyrdom of three FC personnel in the initial blast.
A preliminary police report stated that the first attacker reached the main gate disguised under a chaddor before detonating himself at the security checkpoint. Moments later, two armed terrorists entered through a side gate, carrying rifles and hand grenades, and moved toward the motorcycle stand, apparently intending to take hostages.
Security forces engaged them in a close-range firefight and neutralized both within 30–40 metres of the main entrance. A parade was underway inside the compound at the time of the attack.
Injuries Reported
Ten people, including three FC personnel and six civilians, were injured. Nine were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital, where all were reported to be out of danger, according to hospital administration.
National Leadership Condemns Attack
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the suicide assault and praised the bravery of security personnel, reaffirming the government’s resolve to eradicate terrorism.
President Asif Ali Zardari also denounced the incident, extending condolences to the families of the martyrs and stating that externally backed elements cannot weaken Pakistan’s unity and resilience.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi paid tribute to the martyrs and attended their funeral prayers, saying such cowardly attacks cannot dampen the nation’s spirit.
Rising Wave of Terrorism
Pakistan has witnessed a surge in terrorist incidents, particularly in KP and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban’s takeover in 2021. In September, militants attacked the FC Headquarters in KP’s Bannu district, resulting in the martyrdom of six security personnel, according to ISPR.
Terror incidents have also spread to Islamabad, where a suicide bombing on November 11 claimed 12 lives and injured 36 others, including lawyers and petitioners.
Pakistan has repeatedly urged the Afghan Taliban and the international community to dismantle terrorist safe havens across the border, including those of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). Recent negotiations mediated by Turkiye and Qatar failed to yield progress, with Islamabad citing Kabul’s “illogical arguments” and lack of seriousness.
