Binance, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, has announced plans to resume withdrawals in phases after recovering or securing 95% of the $6.3 billion in digital assets stolen in what has been described as the largest cryptocurrency heist. The exchange said the first phase would begin between 0600 and 0900 GMT on Sunday. Withdrawals would initially cover major cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, Ether, BNB, Solana, XRP and Dogecoin, along with other tokens. In a statement posted on X late Saturday, Binance said the remaining 5% of stolen assets consisted of less liquid tokens. The exchange said sourcing these assets in the required quantities could take longer. The FBI said on Saturday that North Korea’s state-sponsored hacking group, known as TraderTraitor, was responsible for the attack. According to the FBI, members of the group were observed converting the stolen assets into Ethereum. The agency also warned that it expected further attempts to launder the funds using related technologies.
