Google Data Centre project in southeast Wyoming acquired from Crusoe as part of a major AI infrastructure investment.Google acquires a Wyoming site for its $17 billion AI data centre project.

Google has acquired Crusoe’s data centre site in southeast Wyoming, the AI infrastructure developer announced on Friday. The deal follows Alphabet’s announcement of a $17 billion investment in the project a day earlier.

Google said on Thursday that it would build its first data centre in Wyoming, expanding its AI infrastructure amid growing political opposition to large-scale data centre projects in parts of the United States.

Crusoe said it had completed its role in the project’s pre-development phase. Its work included selecting the site, securing government approvals and developing a power strategy.

The companies did not disclose the financial terms of the acquisition. Crusoe and Tallgrass Energy initially developed the campus.

Google plans to build the facility in partnership with Tallgrass Energy, Black Hills Energy, American Electric Power and Related Digital.

Crusoe Chief Executive Chase Lochmiller said the company had secured more than six gigawatts of contracted capacity. It also has over 40 gigawatts in its development pipeline.

Crusoe added that it was developing another Google data centre campus in Armstrong, a project announced earlier this year.
