A powerful explosion targeting a police vehicle in the Paniala area near Dera Ismail Khan on Wednesday left three police personnel — including ASI Gul Alam — martyred, prompting strong condemnations from federal and provincial leadership.
According to police officials, the explosion occurred near a patrolling vehicle, severely damaging the mobile and resulting in the martyrdom of ASI Gul Alam, Constable Rafiq, and Constable Sakhi Jan. Law enforcement personnel immediately cordoned off the site, while rescue teams and a heavy police contingent reached the area to secure evidence.
Authorities believe the attack bears the hallmarks of militant activity. A search operation has been initiated to track down the perpetrators.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi strongly condemned the attack, referring to the assailants as Fitna-ul-Khawarij. He expressed heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyred officers and paid tribute to their bravery.
Naqvi said the sacrifices of the KP Police “will always be remembered,” adding that the fallen officers’ courage reflects the unwavering resolve of the force in the fight against terrorism.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi also condemned the blast, expressing deep grief over the loss of the three police personnel. He said ASI Gul Alam, Constable Rafiq, and driver Sakhi Jan have made the nation proud with their sacrifice.
“Our police personnel are fighting terrorism on the frontline despite limited resources,” Afridi said, terming the attack a cowardly move that would not weaken the nation’s resolve.
He vowed that the provincial government stands firmly with the police force and that the terrorists involved “will be brought to justice.” Afridi extended heartfelt condolences to the families and offered prayers for the martyrs.
The incident comes just a day after two police personnel were martyred in separate attacks in Lakki Marwat and Bannu. In Lakki Marwat, an explosion on a police mobile martyred one officer and injured three others, while in Bannu, unidentified attackers shot dead another policeman.
Police have launched extensive search operations in all affected areas to apprehend the assailants involved in the recent wave of attacks.
