The 35th National Games concluded on a high note in Karachi on Friday, celebrating Pakistan’s sporting excellence, with the Pakistan Army emerging as the overall champion of the prestigious multi-sport event.

The grand closing ceremony was held at the National Bank Stadium, where Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff, attended as the chief guest.
Held from December 6 to 13, the National Games brought together the country’s leading athletes, showcasing remarkable talent, discipline and sportsmanship across multiple disciplines.
Prominent dignitaries present at the ceremony included Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and Sindh Minister for Sports Sardar Mohammad Bakhsh Mehr.
In a symbolic gesture reflecting Sindh’s cultural heritage, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari presented Field Marshal Asim Munir with a traditional Sindhi Ajrak and cap.
The Pakistan Army dominated the medal standings, winning the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy with an impressive total of 353 medals. WAPDA secured second position with 232 medals, while the National Youth (NY) contingent finished third with 110 medals. Several athletes were also honoured for their outstanding individual performances during the games.
In a ceremonial conclusion, the National Games flag was formally handed over to officials of the Punjab Olympic Association, which will host the next edition of the National Games, continuing the legacy of Pakistan’s premier sporting event.
