Sindh Chief Secretary Orders Authorities to Stay in Field as Rain Spell Approaches
KARACHI: Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Haider Shah has directed all administrative authorities to remain in the field and stay on high alert as a new spell of rains is expected across the province, officials said following a high-level review meeting.

The meeting, attended by commissioners, deputy commissioners, and assistant commissioners, assessed preparedness measures in light of the forecast issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The Chief Secretary emphasized proactive planning, continuous monitoring, and immediate response to public issues.
He instructed field officers to maintain a visible presence and ensure that public facilitation remains a top priority. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) was directed to issue advisories promptly and coordinate closely with all relevant institutions to manage any emergency situation.
Authorities were also told to ensure that municipal bodies remain fully active, with particular focus on drainage systems to prevent urban flooding and water accumulation in low-lying areas. Necessary machinery and resources must be kept operational at all times.
The Chief Secretary further directed departments to take measures to maintain traffic flow and prevent disruption to citizens. He also called for immediate removal of dangerous billboards and unsafe structures that could pose risks during strong winds and rain.
An effective public awareness campaign was also ordered to inform citizens about precautionary steps during adverse weather conditions. Officials were instructed to complete all advance preparations to ensure timely and coordinated response to any emergency.
Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority Sindh has issued an alert across the province, urging both authorities and the public to take precautionary measures.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, rain and thunderstorms are expected on March 25, 26, 28, and 29 in several districts including Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Dadu, Kashmore, Jacobabad, and Larkana.
PDMA Director General Salman Shah said relevant staff and machinery have been placed on standby to respond to any emergency. Authorities have warned that strong winds and possible hailstorms may damage weak structures and crops, while temperatures are expected to drop during the spell.
Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel, while farmers and travelers have been urged to take precautionary steps to minimize potential risks. All Deputy Commissioners and concerned departments have been instructed to remain on high alert and ensure readiness under the supervision of provincial authorities.
