Washington: US President Donald Trump has welcomed Iran’s announcement to fully reopen the strategic Strait of Hormuz to commercial maritime traffic, calling it a positive development for global trade and energy stability.
Iran Says Attempts to Destabilize Government Have Failed, Claims National Resilience
In a post on his Truth Social platform, President Trump said Iran had declared the Strait “completely open and ready for all forms of shipping,” adding, “Thank you Iran.”
The announcement came shortly after Iranian authorities confirmed that commercial vessels would be allowed to transit the Strait under coordinated arrangements during the remaining period of the Lebanon-Israel ceasefire. According to Iranian officials, shipping routes will be managed in cooperation with Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization to ensure regulated and secure passage.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy corridors, with a significant share of global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments passing through the narrow waterway. Any disruption in the region has historically triggered volatility in global energy markets.
Analysts say the reopening is likely to ease immediate pressure on global supply chains and stabilize shipping routes after weeks of uncertainty caused by regional tensions. However, they also caution that the arrangement remains temporary and highly dependent on the continuation of the ceasefire and broader geopolitical developments.
The move is being viewed as part of wider diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing regional escalation and restoring stability in key maritime and energy corridors.
