Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said that construction work on the Red Line BRT project is progressing around the clock and that Karachi’s University Road will reopen for traffic by the end of July.
Encroachments Removed in Karachi Anti-Encroachment Drive
Speaking about the ongoing project, Memon acknowledged the difficulties faced by residents due to construction activities. However, he said the government had to make tough decisions to ensure the timely completion of the major transport initiative.
Minister Apologizes for Public Inconvenience
Memon apologized to citizens for the temporary disruption caused by the development work.
Moreover, he stressed that the project would provide long-term benefits to commuters and improve the city’s public transport network.
He added that authorities are working continuously to complete the project as quickly as possible.
Concerns Over Motorway Planning
The senior minister also commented on Karachi’s motorway infrastructure.
According to Memon, the original planning should have allowed the motorway to begin from Karachi. However, he said previous planning decisions resulted in a different route structure.
Nevertheless, he emphasized the importance of improving transport connectivity for the country’s largest city.
Bhutto Highway Eases Travel
Memon highlighted the positive impact of the Bhutto Highway on daily commuters.
He said the highway has significantly reduced travel time for residents.
Furthermore, police personnel, ambulance services, and rescue teams remain available along the route to assist motorists during emergencies.
As a result, commuters can travel with greater convenience and safety.
Healthcare Facilities Serve Patients Nationwide
The minister also noted that Karachi offers more healthcare facilities than any other city in Pakistan.
Consequently, patients from across the country travel to Karachi to receive medical treatment, including free healthcare services at several public institutions.
In addition, he praised the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences for providing quality healthcare without cost to patients.
According to Memon, the institute continues to play a vital role in serving people from different regions.
Development Projects Continue Across Sindh
Memon said the Sindh government has upgraded roads throughout the province using its own financial resources.
Meanwhile, development projects remain underway in various districts to improve infrastructure and public services.
He added that the government remains committed to accelerating progress and enhancing living standards across Sindh.
Housing and Energy Initiatives
The senior minister further revealed that a major housing project is currently in progress across the province.
The initiative aims to provide homes for approximately 2.1 million low-income people.
Additionally, Memon said the Sindh government has invested around one billion dollars in Thar coal projects.
According to him, these investments are helping generate affordable electricity and contributing to the country’s energy needs.
He concluded by saying that infrastructure, housing, healthcare, and energy projects remain key priorities for the provincial government.
