Sindh Orders Enhanced Security Measures for Muharram Gatherings

Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar directed authorities to ensure strict law and order arrangements for Majalis and processions during Muharram-ul-Haram.

Chairing a review of security preparations, the minister ordered officials to immediately prepare a comprehensive contingency and communication plan for Muharram security.

He instructed all districts, police ranges and operational zones to reassess existing arrangements and make security plans more effective and result-oriented.

Lanjar stressed that authorities would make no compromise on the security of religious gatherings and processions. He added that protecting citizens’ lives and property remains the Sindh government’s highest priority.

Security Measures and Monitoring

The minister directed authorities to introduce enhanced security measures at sensitive locations, Imambargahs and procession routes.

He also ordered strict monitoring of miscreants, proscribed organisations and suspicious individuals across the province.

In addition, Lanjar instructed officials to fully enforce legal restrictions on individuals listed under the Fourth Schedule and maintain continuous surveillance of their activities.

Authorities will also conduct detailed surveys, security audits and threat assessments of Majalis venues and procession routes.

Coordination and Emergency Preparedness

Lanjar emphasised regular coordination with district and police station-level peace committees to strengthen harmony among different schools of thought.

He instructed the Anti-Riot Force, reserve police and related personnel to remain on high alert throughout Muharram.

The minister also ordered a detailed review of weapons, ammunition, anti-riot kits and other operational equipment.

Furthermore, he stressed the need to keep control rooms and communication systems fully functional to support rapid response capabilities.

Traffic Management and Enforcement

The Sindh home minister directed authorities to take action against religious hatred, provocative material, wall chalking and illegal pamphlet distribution.

He also instructed departments to strictly implement the Loudspeaker Act and follow the approved code of conduct.

In addition, officials will prepare a comprehensive traffic management plan to maintain smooth movement during Muharram.

Lanjar concluded by directing all law enforcement agencies to strengthen coordination and intelligence-sharing mechanisms to respond effectively to potential threats.

He said the Sindh government would use all available resources to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram 2026 and warned that authorities would not tolerate negligence in security arrangements.
