AI Safety Tests White House to Meet Meta, OpenAI, Google and Anthropic Over Cybersecurity According to sources, the ECP has proposed changes to Section 137 of the Election Act 2017. The amendment would strengthen the commission’s oversight of parliamentarians’ financial disclosures. If Parliament approves the proposal, the ECP will be able to directly scrutinise the assets and financial statements submitted by members of parliament. Additionally, the commission could take action if a lawmaker’s declared assets do not match their known sources of income. Furthermore, the proposed amendment would require banks, government institutions and other relevant departments to provide information requested by the ECP. Institutions would have to submit the required records within the prescribed timeframe. Otherwise, they could face legal action for violating the law. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has published the proposed amendment for public consultation. It has invited objections and suggestions from stakeholders until August 15. Afterward, the commission will examine the feedback before deciding whether to finalise the proposed legal changes. The proposal reflects the ECP’s broader effort to improve transparency, strengthen accountability and enhance oversight of lawmakers’ financial declarations.
