Chehlum Security remained the top priority across Pakistan on Tuesday as mourners observed the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions. Authorities deployed thousands of security personnel and introduced traffic diversions to ensure the peaceful conduct of religious processions and gatherings. Inspector General of Punjab Police Abdul Karim said more than 42,000 police officers and personnel had been deployed to maintain law and order across the province. Lahore Implements Three-Tier Security Plan Lahore Police assigned more than 10,000 personnel to secure 44 majalis and 17 processions. Authorities installed 390 walkthrough gates and 6,427 metal detectors at key locations. The Punjab Safe City Authority monitored events through its citywide surveillance camera network. Police also deployed Elite Force personnel, traffic police and volunteers to assist with crowd management. The provincial police chief directed Capital City Police Officers (CCPOs), Regional Police Officers (RPOs) and District Police Officers (DPOs) to personally supervise security arrangements. Officials positioned snipers on rooftops along procession routes. Female police officers screened women mourners at entry points. Authorities also introduced special security measures for devotees attending the annual Urs of Data Ganj Bakhsh at Data Darbar. Dedicated control rooms monitored both events throughout the day. The main Chehlum procession began from Haveli Alif Shah inside Delhi Gate under a three-tier security plan. Mourners followed the traditional route, offered Zuhrain prayers at Wazir Khan Mosque and continued towards Karbala Gamay Shah. Police allowed participants to join the procession only after completing multiple security checks. Authorities also sealed adjoining streets with temporary barricades and barbed wire. Karachi Enforces Traffic Diversions In Karachi, the central Chehlum procession started from Nishtar Park and continued along its traditional route under tight security. Authorities closed M.A. Jinnah Road and placed containers at major entry points to restrict access to the procession route. Karachi Traffic Police introduced a detailed diversion plan. Officials redirected traffic from Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Hasan Square, Nazimabad, Shahrah-e-Faisal and Saddar through alternative routes to minimise disruption. Authorities urged citizens to cooperate with security personnel, follow official traffic advisories and immediately report any suspicious activity as security remained on high alert across the country.
