Sindh Politics remained in focus on Saturday as Sindh Minister Saeed Ghani defended the provincial government’s performance and rejected demands for a separate province. He said the Constitution sets a clear procedure for such changes, including approval from the relevant provincial assembly. The minister criticised recent statements by Punjab ministers about Sindh. He said their remarks showed they lacked awareness of the province’s situation. Ghani said some critics should visit Sindh before commenting on its development. He added that a recent delegation of Punjab parliamentarians also observed a different picture of Karachi during its visit. The PPP leader said Karachi’s image had often been presented negatively for political reasons. He claimed visitors could see the city’s progress themselves. Healthcare and Development Claims Ghani highlighted Sindh’s healthcare facilities, especially the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases (NICVD). He said the hospital provides free treatment to patients from across Pakistan. According to Ghani, NICVD treated 4.14 million patients last year. He added that more than 119,000 patients from Punjab also received treatment at the facility. The minister welcomed new cardiac healthcare projects in other provinces. However, he urged critics to compare them with NICVD’s services. Financial Performance and Housing Projects Discussing the provincial budget, Ghani said Sindh managed financial pressure while controlling expenses. He claimed Sindh collected Rs676 billion through its own resources during the 2025-26 financial year. He compared this with Punjab’s collection of Rs524 billion. Ghani also discussed housing initiatives. He said Punjab offered homes through loan schemes, while Sindh provided 2.1 million free houses with ownership rights for women. Debate Over New Province Ghani said only constitutional institutions could decide on the creation of new provinces. He added that elected representatives in Sindh opposed dividing the province. He also referred to previous resolutions regarding new provinces in Punjab. He said the Senate and Punjab Assembly had supported administrative changes in the past. Criticism of PML-N The Sindh minister criticised the PML-N leadership over its political history. He said the PPP had made sacrifices during struggles against military rule. Ghani alleged that previous PML-N governments faced questions over election practices. He also criticised the current government’s political position. He said the PPP would continue raising issues related to public rights and democracy. Regarding Kashmir, Ghani praised Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s election campaign.
