Google Gemini will be offered to students across Pakistan through a free one-year subscription, Google Vice President Wilson White announced on Tuesday. White made the announcement at an event marking the establishment of Google’s first local office in Pakistan. He said the company would provide the subscription to Pakistani students at no cost, with a formal announcement expected later this week. The initiative is expected to give students access to Google’s AI-powered tools for learning, research and other educational activities once the programme officially launches. White also said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s ambition to develop Pakistan into a $30 billion IT export hub aligned with Google’s objectives for the country. He added that Google’s wider ecosystem had supported more than 960,000 jobs in the country during the same period. White indicated that Google’s expansion in Pakistan could continue, describing the latest developments as only the beginning of the company’s plans for the country. Following the event, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja welcomed Google’s arrival in Pakistan in a post on X.
