ISLAMABAD: Pakistan-Syria ties are set for renewed diplomatic engagement as Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani arrived in Islamabad late Wednesday for a two-day official visit.

Al-Shaibani is visiting Pakistan from August 19 to 20 at the invitation of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. A senior Syrian delegation accompanied him, while the Foreign Office’s additional secretary for the Middle East received him at the airport.

The visit will focus on strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest. Pakistani and Syrian officials are expected to review the full range of bilateral ties during their discussions.

The two sides will also exchange views on regional and international developments, with the talks providing an opportunity to coordinate positions on issues affecting both countries and the wider region.

During his stay, the Syrian foreign minister is expected to meet senior Pakistani officials and other leadership. The meetings will focus on strengthening political and diplomatic engagement and identifying new avenues for cooperation.

The Foreign Office described the visit as an important step towards further strengthening relations between Islamabad and Damascus.

The visit also reflects Pakistan’s continued diplomatic engagement with regional partners as countries confront political, economic and security challenges across the region.

Pakistani and Syrian officials are expected to review existing cooperation and explore ways to build stronger and more comprehensive relations in the coming years.
