Two people died after a wildfire destroyed a house in a forested settlement in northern Greece, emergency officials said. Strong winds then pushed the flames rapidly towards nearby homes and surrounding areas. Local media reported that the fire reached a house near the village of Liti, around 25 kilometres from Thessaloniki. Firefighters discovered one man dead near the property while carrying out emergency operations. They later found a second body inside the damaged house. Meanwhile, rescue teams evacuated a woman from the same area after she suffered burn injuries. Earlier, authorities instructed residents to leave the settlement and move to a nearby playing field for safety. Emergency crews continued operations to prevent further damage. Scientists consider Greece and other Mediterranean countries highly vulnerable to wildfires. Moreover, rising temperatures and prolonged dry conditions have increased the intensity and frequency of such events.
