The 29-year-old arrived at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for fashion’s biggest night, just days after his biographical film Michael opened to strong box office numbers. In the film, Jaafar portrays the iconic pop star, recreating some of his most famous performances and looks.
For the gala, Jaafar wore a black velvet suit designed by Ralph Lauren, featuring gold detailing, a black bowtie, red socks and black ballet-style shoes — an ensemble inspired by Michael Jackson’s signature stage style.
This year’s theme, “Fashion Is Art,” was part of an exhibition curated by Andrew Bolton titled “Costume Art,” exploring the relationship between clothing and the human body across different stages of life.
Jaafar’s appearance comes at a high point in his career, with Michael, released on April 24, performing strongly in North America and globally. The film showcases meticulously recreated outfits from iconic moments such as “Thriller,” “Beat It,” and the famous Pepsi commercial, designed by costume expert Marci Rodgers.
His debut at the Met Gala not only highlighted his rising stardom but also served as a stylish tribute to the enduring legacy of Michael Jackson.
