Khamenei issued the message on his Telegram account during Islamic Unity Week, which coincides with the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He called for greater cooperation among Muslim countries in political, economic and security affairs, as well as mutual defence. He said those who create divisions among Muslims, whether knowingly or unknowingly, ultimately help their opponents. Khamenei also questioned whether Palestinians would have been left “so helpless” if Muslim countries had remained united. The Iranian leader has largely stayed out of public view since reportedly being injured in US-Israeli airstrikes six months ago. The strikes triggered the Iran war and killed his father and predecessor, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. His latest appeal for unity follows remarks he made to Iranians on Friday, when he called for measures to protect social cohesion and urged officials to avoid statements that could undermine public morale. Addressing Gulf Arab rulers, Khamenei asked whether “rogues without identity” would have dared to seek their lands and resources if Gulf governments and their populations had been united under the banner of Islam. Tehran has targeted US military facilities and other infrastructure in Gulf states, further escalating regional concerns. Khamenei urged the leaders of Islamic countries, particularly those in West Asia and the Gulf, to identify their “real enemy”, understand its strategy and confront it collectively.
