US President Donald Trump has credited Pakistan with helping Washington secure a memorandum of understanding with Iran and praised the country’s leadership for supporting diplomatic efforts behind the scenes.
Speaking in an interview with American outlet Axios, Trump said Pakistan contributed to the process that led to the understanding with Tehran.
While discussing world leaders he admired, Trump mentioned Pakistan alongside China and India.
He praised Pakistan’s military and political leadership and highlighted cooperation between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir.

Trump said Pakistan played a constructive role during negotiations with Iran.
“They really helped us with this deal. They knew the Iranians, they knew the people and they were good,” he said.
He also said Pakistan’s leadership encouraged restraint during periods of regional tension and supported diplomatic engagement.
Trump described Field Marshal Asim Munir as a respected figure and said Pakistan’s civilian and military leadership worked closely together.
Remarks on Pakistan-India Tensions
During the interview, Trump again referred to last year’s military confrontation between Pakistan and India.
He claimed his administration helped prevent escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours.

He also referred to discussions with Pakistan’s leadership during that period.
Comments on US Military and Foreign Policy
Trump used the interview to reflect on his broader foreign policy decisions.
He repeated his position that his administration acted decisively in periods of international crisis.
He highlighted US military strength and referred to previous intervention measures, including maritime restrictions during regional tensions.
