Actor Selma Blair was arrested after flight attendants reported a physically abusive passenger on a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York, police in New York and New Jersey said on Monday.

Police identified Blair, known for her roles in Cruel Intentions and Hellboy, as the suspect in the incident, which occurred on Sunday evening.

Authorities took the 54-year-old actor into custody at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York before transporting her to a hospital for evaluation, according to a police statement.

Two flight attendants reported injuries, and one was taken to a hospital, police said.

Delta Air Lines said it had zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behaviour, adding that the safety of passengers and crew remained its priority.

According to a video of Blair’s arraignment hearing in Queens, New York City, she also faced allegations of kicking a police officer involved in her arrest and kicking a nurse at the hospital where she was taken.

Blair was later released on bond. The allegations remain subject to the legal process.

Her representative said the actor had experienced a medical emergency during the flight, which allegedly led to the conduct reported by authorities.

“Selma experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct,” the representative said. The statement added that Blair received immediate medical attention after landing and was in stable condition.

Blair has previously spoken publicly about living with multiple sclerosis, an autoimmune disease affecting the central nervous system. She disclosed her diagnosis in 2018.
