The United States launched fresh airstrikes on Iran early Thursday, prompting Tehran to fire missiles towards several US-allied countries in the Middle East and further straining a fragile ceasefire. Mangi Dam attack Balochistan report says 27 security personnel martyred, 15 militants killed Iranian missiles targeted Bahrain, Kuwait and Qatar, while air raid sirens also sounded in Jordan, where US forces are stationed. Regional authorities reported multiple interceptions as security forces responded to the attacks. The latest exchange followed earlier attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump warned that any further disruption to shipping could trigger a stronger military response. An Iranian official accused the United States of striking areas near Iran’s only nuclear power plant in Bushehr later on Thursday. Iranian media also reported explosions in several other parts of the country. Meanwhile, Iran buried Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in his hometown of Mashhad early Friday after several days of nationwide funeral ceremonies. Khamenei was killed during the opening phase of the war. According to Iran’s Health Ministry, the latest US airstrikes killed at least 14 people and injured another 78. Most of the casualties were members of the armed forces. Kuwait said its military intercepted three ballistic missiles, one cruise missile and 10 drones. Falling debris injured one person. Bahrain also confirmed that its air defence systems intercepted incoming projectiles. Jordan reported that its forces shot down all missiles entering its airspace. Iranian state television claimed the Revolutionary Guard launched missiles at a US military base in Jordan. However, Qatari authorities did not immediately report any damage. The US military’s Central Command said its forces struck 90 targets across Iran. Officials said the operation aimed to reduce Iran’s ability to threaten navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a vital route for global energy supplies. Iranian media reported explosions in Bushehr and several southern cities. Local officials accused the United States of targeting areas near the country’s nuclear facility, although US officials did not confirm that claim. For the first time since April, US strikes also hit bridges in northeastern Iran. State media reported damage to transport routes leading to Mashhad during Khamenei’s final funeral procession. Thousands of mourners gathered in Mashhad as Khamenei’s funeral concluded. Many carried Iranian flags and portraits of the late leader while chanting anti-US and anti-Israel slogans. After leaving the NATO summit, Trump posted videos on social media that he said showed explosions inside Iran. He warned Tehran that any new attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz would bring a much stronger US response. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf rejected the warning. He said any future attack on Iran would receive a firm response. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later held talks with senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Oman and Pakistan, including Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. The diplomatic contacts suggested renewed efforts to reduce regional tensions. Although negotiations on a permanent agreement were expected to begin after Khamenei’s funeral, Trump declared the interim ceasefire “over” and questioned the value of further talks. The proposed negotiations aim to restore security in the Strait of Hormuz and address Iran’s disputed nuclear programme.
