KARACHI: The Pakistan Navy, through its National Hydrographic Office (NHO), is facilitating a Pakistan–China Joint Oceanographic Cruise being carried out by the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) in collaboration with China’s Second Institute of Oceanography (SIO).

As part of the scientific mission, the Pakistan Navy has deployed its survey vessel PNS Behr Masah to support research activities, reaffirming the navy’s commitment to promoting maritime awareness and enabling marine scientific research in national waters.
The joint oceanographic cruise marks an important scientific partnership between Pakistan and China, aimed at improving understanding of the marine environment in Pakistani waters. The research is expected to enhance knowledge of coastal and offshore marine dynamics, contributing to improved environmental assessments and supporting evidence-based maritime planning and policymaking.
Officials said the initiative also contributes to broader regional understanding of oceanographic conditions in the North Arabian Sea and reflects the deepening cooperation between the two countries in the maritime and scientific domains.
The Pakistan–China Joint Oceanographic Cruise underscores the long-standing strategic partnership between Islamabad and Beijing and highlights their shared commitment to advancing marine science and regional maritime cooperation.
