LMArena, the web-based platform that allows users to compare large language models such as OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude, and Google’s Gemini, announced on Tuesday that its valuation had surged to $1.7 billion in just eight months following a $150 million funding round.
LMArena Valuation Triples to $1.7 Billion Following $150 Million Funding Round
The round was co-led by Felicis and UC Investments, with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, The House Fund, LDVP, Kleiner Perkins, Lightspeed Venture Partners, and Laude Ventures. The new capital will be used to expand LMArena’s technical team, strengthen research capabilities, and support platform operations.
LMArena, formerly known as Chatbot Arena, relies on anonymous, crowd-sourced evaluations to measure the real-world utility of AI models. “To measure the real utility of AI, we need to put it in the hands of real users. LMArena does exactly this,” said co-founder and CEO Anastasios Angelopoulos.
The platform’s latest funding follows a $100 million seed-round raise in May, led by a16z and UC Investments. Investor enthusiasm for generative AI continues to drive high valuations and rapid funding growth, sparked by the commercialization potential demonstrated by ChatGPT since its 2022 launch.
