ABU DHABI: A drone strike triggered a fire at a nuclear power facility in the United Arab Emirates on Sunday, officials said, as diplomatic efforts to end the ongoing US-Israeli conflict with Iran and restore shipping activity in the Gulf remain stalled.

According to Emirati authorities, the strike hit an electrical generator located outside the inner security perimeter of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant. Officials confirmed there were no injuries and that radiation safety levels at the facility remained unaffected.
The UAE government said an investigation had been launched to determine the source of the attack, stressing that the country reserves the right to respond to what it described as “terrorist attacks.”
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) stated that emergency diesel generators had restored power to Unit 3 of the facility and urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint around nuclear sites.
The UAE Ministry of Defence said two additional drones had been intercepted successfully, adding that the drones originated from the “western border,” without providing further details.
The incident comes amid heightened regional tensions linked to the ongoing conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel. Disruptions to maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz have continued to impact global energy markets and fuel diplomatic concerns.
Efforts to reach a broader settlement have so far failed to narrow major differences between Washington and Tehran, with both sides maintaining opposing demands over security, nuclear issues and regional stability.
