KARACHI: Pakistan will celebrate Eid ul Adha on May 27 after the Zil Hajj moon was sighted, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad announced on Sunday.

The announcement came following a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee held at the Pakistan Meteorological Department in Karachi, along with zonal committee meetings conducted in provincial headquarters across the country.
Addressing a press conference, the Ruet committee chairman said credible testimonies regarding moon sighting had been received from various regions of Pakistan.
He stated that a consensus decision had been reached declaring the first day of Zil Hajj 1447 AH on Monday, May 18, while Eid ul Adha would be observed nationwide on Wednesday, May 27.
Earlier, Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission had forecast favorable conditions for moon visibility, saying the new moon was born on May 17 at 1:01am and was considered visible based on astronomical calculations.
Meanwhile, countries including Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman and Turkiye also announced the sighting of the Zil Hajj moon and will observe Eid ul Adha on May 27.
Eid ul Adha, observed on the 10th of Zil Hajj, coincides with the annual Hajj pilgrimage and commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.
