Pakistani security forces killed 17 militants during two intelligence-based operations in Balochistan, while an army soldier was martyred in an exchange of fire, the military’s media wing said on Tuesday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operations were conducted on November 1 in Kachhi and Kharan districts against militants belonging to Fitna Al Hindustan and Fitna Al Khawarij.

The military said the operations followed intelligence reports about the presence of militants in both districts.

In Kachhi’s Sanni area, security forces launched an intelligence-based operation and foiled an attempt by militants to establish a roadblock.

The ISPR said 10 Indian-sponsored militants were killed during the engagement. Security personnel also recovered weapons and ammunition from the area.

The military added that forces prevented the militants from carrying out their planned activity.

In a separate operation in Kharan district, security forces targeted a militant hideout. Seven militants belonging to Fitna Al Khawarij were killed following an intense exchange of fire, the ISPR said. The hideout was also destroyed.

During the operation, Sepoy Hikmat Ullah, 25, from Karak district, fought bravely and was martyred, according to the military.

Security forces recovered weapons and ammunition during both operations. Sanitisation efforts were under way in the affected areas to locate and eliminate any remaining militants.

The ISPR said clearance operations would continue until all remaining militants in the areas had been tracked down and neutralised.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised security forces for killing 17 Indian-sponsored militants in the operations. He also paid tribute to Sepoy Hikmat Ullah and prayed for the elevation of his ranks.

The prime minister expressed condolences to the soldier’s family and conveyed his sympathy over their loss.

Shehbaz said security forces were achieving significant successes against terrorism under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam. He added that they remained committed to eliminating all forms of terrorism from the country.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also praised security forces for the operations in Balochistan. He commended their professional capabilities for thwarting the militants’ plans and killing 17 terrorists.

Naqvi paid tribute to Sepoy Hikmat Ullah, saying the soldier had set an example through his sacrifice for the country.

He described security personnel as a source of national pride and said they remained determined to eliminate Indian-sponsored terrorism.

The interior minister added that the nation stood alongside security forces in their fight against terrorism.
