According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs spokesperson, the meeting will take place at the Pakistan Meteorological Department office in Karachi and will be chaired by Chairman Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabeer Azad.
Zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committee meetings will also be held simultaneously at their respective headquarters across the country.
The spokesperson stated that the final announcement regarding the moon sighting will be officially made by the chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after reviewing testimonies and reports from across Pakistan.
Earlier, SUPARCO released astronomical predictions regarding the expected sighting of the Zil Hajj crescent.
According to SUPARCO, the new moon of Zil Hajj 1447 Hijri is expected to be born on May 17, 2026, at 1:01 am. By sunset, the moon’s age is expected to be around 18 hours and 30 minutes, while coastal areas of Pakistan may experience a moonset approximately 60 minutes after sunset.
Based on these calculations, SUPARCO said conditions for sighting the crescent on the evening of May 17 are considered favorable if weather conditions remain clear and visibility near the horizon is good.
The space agency further projected that the first day of Zil Hajj is likely to fall on Monday, May 18, 2026, while Eid-ul-Adha is expected to be observed on May 27. However, the final decision will depend on the official moon sighting announcement by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
