Pakistan Navy celebrated the country’s 79th Independence Day on Thursday with traditional zeal, patriotic spirit and military ceremonies across the country. The main ceremony took place at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah in Karachi, where Pakistan Naval Academy cadets and sailors assumed guard duties during a formal Change of Guard ceremony. Rear Admiral Muhammad Umair, Commandant Pakistan Naval Academy, attended the ceremony as chief guest. He presented a Qaumi Salam at Mazar-e-Quaid and laid a floral wreath on behalf of the Chief of the Naval Staff. The naval commander also offered Fatiha and recorded his remarks in the Visitors’ Book. He paid tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah for his leadership and role in the creation of Pakistan. The day began with a 21-gun salute at Pakistan Navy units and thanksgiving prayers at naval mosques. The prayers sought peace, prosperity and national unity. Meanwhile, naval units and establishments across Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Petaro, Sujawal, Sanghar, Gwadar and Ormara held flag-hoisting ceremonies to mark the national occasion. Pakistan Navy also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. It pledged to maintain a high level of operational readiness to respond to challenges facing national security. The ceremonies reflected the Navy’s traditional military spirit and its resolve to continue serving and protecting the country.
