The federal government may increase the minimum wage for unskilled workers above the current Rs37,000 in the budget for fiscal year 2026–27.

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb will present the federal budget in the National Assembly at 3pm today. The total budget outlay may reach around Rs17.5 trillion.
According to sources, the government may set a tax revenue target of Rs15.267 trillion for the next fiscal year. The government also plans to spend Rs7.824 trillion on debt servicing.
Meanwhile, officials may allocate around Rs3 trillion for defence spending under the new budget framework.
The government may also introduce relief measures for public sector employees. In addition, policymakers are reviewing proposals to increase salaries and pensions.
Furthermore, the government aims to collect Rs1.727 trillion through the petroleum levy during the next fiscal year.
Sources added that the government may target exports of $32.8 billion and imports of $70 billion. These targets support the broader economic strategy for the coming year.
However, the government will confirm all figures and policy decisions during the official budget presentation.
