Tensions between Iran and the United States have sharply escalated after Iran’s Revolutionary Guards warned that any attack on Iranian tankers or commercial vessels would trigger strikes on US targets in the Middle East, including military sites and allied naval assets.
The warning comes a day after US forces reportedly targeted two Iranian-flagged tankers in the Gulf of Oman, which Washington accused of violating restrictions on Iranian shipping routes. Iran claims it has already responded militarily to earlier incidents and accused the US of undermining ceasefire efforts.
Diplomatic uncertainty continues as Tehran has not officially confirmed its response to the latest US peace proposal, though Iranian officials say it remains under review. Mediators, including Pakistan, Qatar, and Turkey, are reportedly involved in facilitating indirect communication between both sides.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump said he expected Iran’s response “very soon,” while US and regional officials continue high-level consultations to prevent further escalation.
The crisis has also impacted maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical global oil route, where Iran has sought greater leverage, raising concerns in global energy markets.
Adding to regional instability, renewed clashes have intensified in Lebanon between Israel and Hezbollah despite a fragile ceasefire, further widening the scope of Middle East tensions.
