Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday paid tribute to the martyrs of Kashmir Martyrs’ Day. He said their sacrifices marked a turning point in the political awakening of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

In his message marking the 95th Kashmir Martyrs’ Day, the prime minister honoured the 22 Kashmiris. They died after the Dogra administration opened fire on peaceful demonstrators in Srinagar in 1931.

He said the day reflects the resilience, courage and determination of the Kashmiri people. Moreover, he said their struggle for dignity, fundamental rights and identity continues to inspire new generations.

The prime minister said the willingness to make the ultimate sacrifice has shaped the history of Jammu and Kashmir’s struggle for self-determination.

Meanwhile, Shehbaz Sharif said the people of Jammu and Kashmir continue their struggle. He said they remain steadfast despite heavy militarisation, repression and alleged human rights violations in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).

He said authorities continue to detain political activists. They also restrict the media and suppress political dissent.

He also said international human rights organisations and United Nations human rights bodies have documented these actions.

Furthermore, the prime minister paid tribute to all the martyrs of Jammu and Kashmir. He said their legacy will strengthen the determination of future generations.

Shehbaz Sharif also reaffirmed Pakistan’s political, diplomatic and moral support for the Kashmiri people.

Finally, he said lasting peace and stability in South Asia depend on resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.
