EV Buses Sindh to Add 500 Electric and 50 Double-Decker Buses to Public Transport

EV Buses will play a central role in Sindh’s public transport expansion, with the provincial government preparing to introduce 500 electric buses and 50 double-decker buses, Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said on Saturday.

Chairing a meeting on land allocation for bus depots and transport infrastructure, Memon said the new fleet would significantly improve public transport services across the province. He stressed that the government remains committed to providing residents with modern, comfortable and environmentally friendly travel options.

Senior officials, including Transport Secretary Asad Zamin, Karachi Development Authority Director General Asif Jan Siddiqui, deputy commissioners from Malir, Korangi, Karachi Central and Karachi West, and representatives of relevant departments attended the meeting.

Officials briefed the minister on land requirements for bus depots, parking facilities and operational infrastructure. They also reviewed the availability of government land, proposed sites and future requirements to support the expansion of the transport network.

Memon directed officials to complete the identification and allocation of suitable land for bus depots without delay. He also instructed deputy commissioners to identify vacant government land in their districts for the construction of modern depots to support mass transit projects.

He said timely development of depots and operational infrastructure would determine the success of the transport programme. He urged all relevant departments to work together and complete the necessary arrangements as quickly as possible.

The senior minister reiterated that the Sindh government aims to build a modern public transport system that offers efficient, sustainable and world-class travel facilities for commuters across the province.
