Ben Duckett led England’s batting display with a superb 141, while Jacob Bethell added 91 during an opening partnership that helped the hosts post 387-3. The total became the highest ODI score ever recorded at Lord’s. Joe Root remained unbeaten on 74, and Jos Buttler’s explosive 41 not out from just 13 deliveries gave England a powerful finish.

India mounted a strong chase through Rohit Sharma’s outstanding 138, the first ODI century by an Indian batter at Lord’s. Virat Kohli also contributed 74, keeping the visitors in contention for much of the innings.

Brook said England faced a difficult phase as India gathered momentum. He revealed that he consulted McCullum during the match before introducing Jacob Bethell’s part-time spin into the attack.
