Speaking to Pakistan TV Digital on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Georgieva expressed strong appreciation for the prime minister’s leadership.
“I have the utmost respect for Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif,” she said, adding that he was serious about bringing positive change to Pakistan. “When Shehbaz Sharif sets out to do something, he completes it.”
She said she had met the prime minister several times, during which they reviewed progress on previously agreed goals and discussed new development targets. Georgieva commended the seriousness of the prime minister and his cabinet in pursuing Pakistan’s development and implementing a challenging reform agenda.
The IMF chief noted that the Fund had been working constructively with Pakistan for a long time and that the government was carrying out reforms with determination.
“The government’s actions are starting to bear fruit,” she said, pointing to improved budgetary discipline.
“For the first time, we are seeing strong fiscal discipline, with resources being directed toward positive changes in the lives of the people,” Georgieva added.
