WASHINGTON: A senior US lawmaker has commended Pakistan for its role in facilitating diplomatic efforts between the United States and Iran, describing Islamabad’s engagement as an important contribution to regional stability and international dialogue.

Congressman Jack Bergman, co-chair of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus, sent a letter to Shehbaz Sharif and Syed Asim Munir expressing appreciation for Pakistan’s civil and military leadership during recent diplomatic initiatives.
According to the caucus, Pakistan’s efforts in promoting dialogue and encouraging regional stability deserve “sincere thanks and lasting appreciation.”
Bergman said Pakistan’s role in encouraging communication between Washington and Tehran reflected “true statesmanship and strategic foresight,” adding that the country had demonstrated significant leadership during ongoing peace discussions.
He further emphasized the strategic importance of Pakistan-US relations, noting that both the White House and members of Congress had acknowledged Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic role.
The congressman also announced plans to visit Pakistan in the near future to strengthen bilateral cooperation and expand strategic ties between the two countries.
The remarks come amid broader diplomatic developments involving the United States and Iran, including discussions surrounding regional tensions and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz.
