The pop star, 30, and actor Callum Turner, 36, arrived in Sicily this week. The couple is holding a three-day wedding celebration after reportedly formalising their marriage in London.
Local media reported that authorities temporarily closed two public squares in Palermo. Officials also introduced road closures and no-drone zones around parts of the city.
The restrictions triggered criticism from some residents. Protesters placed posters in public areas with messages such as “Palermo is not for rent” and “Our square is not your living room.”
One poster stated that public spaces belong to everyone and should remain open to the community.
Reports said organisers later removed the posters. However, protesters responded by painting similar slogans on nearby walls.
Residents said the restrictions disrupted daily life. They also complained about limited access to public areas during the celebrations.
Despite the criticism, wedding preparations continued across the city. The event has attracted international attention because of the couple’s celebrity status.
Neither Dua Lipa nor Callum Turner has commented publicly on the protests. Local authorities have also not released a detailed response to the concerns.
