The Secretary of Local Government submitted the report to the court during the hearing.
Public Toilet Situation in Punjab
The report shows that Punjab has 1,420 public toilets in total. Out of these, 1,293 remain functional, while 127 do not operate.
Officials classify 672 toilets for men and 568 for women. However, authorities provide very few facilities for marginalized groups.
Only five public toilets serve transgender persons across the province. Authorities also provide just 10 toilets for persons with disabilities.
Arguments in Court
Justice Raheel Kamran heard the case on a petition filed by lawyer Azhar Siddique on behalf of the Judicial Activism Panel.
During the hearing, the petitioner’s lawyer argued that the shortage of public toilets creates serious difficulties for citizens. He stressed that vulnerable groups face the greatest impact due to the lack of accessible infrastructure.
He also urged the court to ask authorities for a clear explanation of the situation and the steps planned to improve it.
Court Proceedings
After reviewing the report, the court asked the petitioner’s counsel to present detailed arguments at the next hearing.
The case will continue as the court examines gaps in public sanitation services and accessibility standards across Punjab.
